Happy Diamond Jubilee Ma'am...

Morning folks...have you all been enjoying your bank holiday weekend joining in the Jubilee Celebration fever...the weather's been awful but it didn't seem to dampen the spirits at Sunday's Thames River Pageant...I'm now feeling a bit of a wimp complaining about my little chilly sojourn to Edinburgh after watching all the folks who braved the weather to take part and pay tribute to our wonderful Monarch who stood in the freezing wind for over 4 hours...at 86 years old that's no mean feat. I have the greatest admiration and respect for this wonderful lady who's spent the last 60 years fulfilling the pledge she gave on her 21st birthday to devote her life...be it long or short...to the service of this country and going by the 1 million plus people who turned up at The Thames...I'm not alone. And what a finale...I was a quivering blubbing wreck watching the choir belting out "Land Of Hope And Glory" soaked to the skin in the lashing rain...Britannia may no longer rule the waves but hey we still have that indomitable spirit that put the Great into Britain in the first place.  And oh boy do we know how to throw a party...loved the Jubilee Concert and the "real" stars of the show for me were Gary Barlow's Commonweath Choir and their wonderful performance of "Sing"...
It's been far too cold for al fresco Jubilee partying...no pimms or canapes in the garden for me...I'll be snuggled up on the sofa again today...tissues at the ready for today's Procession up the Mall...all that "All The Queens Horses and All The Queens Men" ceremonial marchy stuff gets me every time...it's hairs on the back of your neck standing up time and no-one can match us Brits when it comes to pomp and pageantry...fingers crossed the weather behaves and it doesn't rain on Her Maj's big parade.
But in between all that patriotic blubbing I managed to have a little crafty time so I'm joining in the fun over at The Ribbon Girls first Monthly Card Challenge...
a date for your dairies...the first Sunday of each month

  1. Loving the Pink Petticoat papers and the card is so fitting for the weekend. I have to agree with you, the pagent was amazing, but the service this morning and the parade today will have me reaching for the Kleenex again (if there are any left!)

  3. Love the patriotic cupcake & your layering of the lace & twine. Enjoy the Britishness. We may have to put the heating back on here in the Beacons - wind, rain & good old British weather!

  11. Lovely post. I felt so sorry for the 12 members of the choir on that boat - they were soaked to the skin and still managed to sing and put a smile on their faces.

Think they could have had the thrones on the Royal Barge at the side so the Queen and Prince Philip could have sat down to watch all the boats passing by. They were never used as they facing the wrong way. It was such a shame they had to stand for so long at their ages. Surprised that none of them caught the flu!!!!

    Concert last night was fantastic.

  16. Fabulous card Kath! It's been rainy here in my part of the US so I've been cuddled up watching the Jubilee as well. They haven’t shown near enough of it for me. I agree you Brits can’t be beat when it comes to Pomp and Pageantry. What an amazing lady your Queen is.
